Volkswagen Golf, are we going back 50 years?

Series production of the eighth-generation Golf has begun in Germany at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg.

Almost fifty years to the day after the launch of the very first Golf, the first model of the eighth generation rolled off the production lines. It’s the Golf Style1, in a stunning anemone blue.

Wolfsburg is the reference production site for this model that has stood the test of time and style. More than 50 years ago, more than 37 million units were sold worldwide, more than half have left its lines, or 400,000 vehicles per year on average. This is the case for the “classic” Golf, now in its eighth generation, but also for the Golf SW and Golf Sportsvan.

More tech, still Golf

Although it is not talking about a completely new design, but more than an evolution of the previous generation, this new Golf still has distinctive features such as the shiny Volkswagen logo that adorns the grille. The new Golf is finally available in two new plug-in hybrid versions, which have a greater range of over 100 km in electric mode, and 1000 km in hybrid mode, as well as a direct current fast charging function.

In the cabin, a new generation infotainment system takes place, with a 32.2/12.9-inch touchscreen and intuitive menu. Touch sliders for adjusting temperature and volume are now featured. Other new features: the multifunction steering wheel with its easy-to-reach buttons, as well as the IDA voice assistant and the integrated ChatGPT function, which not only allows you to control various functions (air conditioning, telephone, navigation system) but also get online information about the type all subjects.
