DS, Opel and Jeep equip their models with Mild-Hybrid petrol engine (2024)

DS 3, DS 4 and Opel Astra are even smarter! Indeed, these models are now offered with a new petrol hybrid engine from Stellantis, a 136 hp hybrid unit that consumes 15% less (and therefore emits less CO2) than the same engine, which is the 1.2 PureTech 130 in automatic transmission. . In this regard, all three models are equipped with automatic transmission as standard and can be ordered now. In the case of the Astra, this new engine requires an additional 1,800 euros compared to the 1.2 Turbo of 130 hp.

Instead of power for a small hybrid!

This new non-hybrid engine from Stellantis was launched late last year in the previous generation Peugeot 3008 and 5008. This is an evolution of the 1.2 PureTech, three-cylinder engine that has been used by the brand for many years. This engine has been made more efficient thanks to a new timing chain (replacing a weak oil-washed belt), a new turbocharger with variable geometry, as well as operation based on the Miller cycle.

But the biggest difference undoubtedly comes from the new 6-speed e-DCS6 robotic gearbox, which connects the 21 kW (28 hp) and 55 Nm electric motor to the 48 volt circuit. This engine draws its power from a 0.9 kWh battery. Therefore, this mild hybrid engine is better than similar proposals from the competition, as it is able to cover short distances in electric mode. This is useful in the city, as the petrol engine can be cut off from time to time…

For Jeep, it’s an internal engine!

Jeep is also offering a new non-hybrid petrol engine on its Renegade and Compass. However, these models are based on a different platform (actually developed at the time of FCA), they use another engine: 1.5 GSE T4, which develops 130 hp and 240 Nm A 48 volt alternator-starter drive provides an additional 15 kW (21 hp) to increase low end torque and reduced fuel consumption. The energy required for this motor is stored here in a 0.8 kWh battery. A less powerful system, therefore, but every little gesture counts!
