Why street prices seem to be the same, but they are not

Road price, you have probably heard a lot about it. The government’s plan appears to be in effect from 2030. Pay-as-you-go sounds like a fair plan, but nothing could be further from the truth. So says the province of Flevoland.

road price? The Ministry of Finance and the cabinet have been looking at road prices for some time. The idea is that you pay for the use of your car. If you drive a lot, you pay a lot. It is not yet clear which system will actually take over.

Street prices are not fair to the people of Flevoland

Road pricing seems like a fair system, but why is it so bad for people living in Flevoland? “Due to the high travel distance, Flevolanders will pay more than residents of other areas. Because car alternatives are lacking for many, the number of jobs that Flevolanders can access will also decrease rapidly,” says the province.

The state of Flevoland says that people with a petrol or diesel car in the cities of Almere and Lelystad can find fewer jobs by 10 to 30 percent because the costs of transport are then very high due to road prices. For residents of other municipalities in Flevoland, this percentage is higher: 25 to 50 percent. “The difference is because the residents of Almere and Lelystad have more jobs that can be reached by public transport,” the province explains in a statement.

The solution to the problem

Because this can make the price of the road less than what you first thought, Flevoland asks for a solution to this problem. Logically, the future solution does not apply only to Flevoland.
