Dodge Charger: the first electric muscle car (2024)

It’s definitely the end of an era and the beginning of a new one for Dodge. The combustion-engined Challenger has retired after more than 15 years, and now the American manufacturer presents its first electric muscle car: the Charger! The production model inherits almost all the design elements of the August 2022 concept version, including its hollow R-Wing grille that improves its aerodynamics.

Up to 670 hp for the Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack Electric

Under the hood there is no longer a V8, but there is a small cargo space and, above all, two electric motors that send their power to the four wheels of its large STLA platform. Two power levels are offered: the Daytona R/T with a total of 496 hp, and the Daytona Scat Pack, which increases to 670 hp and accelerates to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 3.3 seconds! Both versions have the same 100.5 kWh battery and have a range of up to 510 and 418 km respectively. Dodge also announced that 27 minutes of charging with a 350 kW fast charger is enough to go from 20 to 80% battery level. But that’s not all…

Coupe or sedan, but also electric or gasoline!

The new Dodge Charger will have a coupe version and a four-door sedan! And it is not only available with an electric drive, because both variants will soon also receive a 3-liter six-cylinder with two turbos that produce 420 hp as Sixpack SO, or 550 hp as Sixpack HO.

Electric four-wheeler with noise and burning ball

In addition to its power, the 8th generation Charger also receives a major technological update. The American muscle car will feature a 10.25-inch or 16-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen and the same ‘Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust’ as the 2022 concept! So the new Charger will still scream, and still manage to burn the rubber despite its four-wheel drive thanks to the special Donut and Drift modes.

Vanaf medio coupe 2024, rest in 2025

Not every variant of this new Dodge Charger goes into production at the same time. The Daytona R/T and Scat Pack electric coupes will be built first, starting in mid-2024. Versions with a combustion engine and four-door sedans will only roll off the production line from 2025. A more powerful SRT version is also expected later.

Sébastien has always been interested in the world of the car in the broadest sense of the word. He is very interested in everything, from small vintage cars and combustion engines to modern electric mastodons. However, he has a soft spot for fast but smart cars. There’s nothing like a station wagon that’s bursting with power for intelligent driving pleasure.
