The best Audi driver was Abt Ricardo Feller in fifth place, 0.123 seconds behind, the best Porsche is in sixth place thanks to Manthey EMA driver Thomas Preining. Rene Rast lifted the BMW flag in eighth place at Schubert’s home race, while Mercedes-AMG suffered an upset. David Schumacher was the brand’s best driver and stars in 16th place, 0.471 seconds back.
In good conditions, qualifying was marked by Pirelli tires, which are new in the DTM. Since the tires need a few laps to reach temperature, there was always heavy traffic on the track – and accordingly heavy traffic following the best times. This is also why pilots used only one set of tires.
