It’s no secret that many local musicians have full-time jobs, and the Atlanta-based neo-funk outfit. Cadillac Jones there is no exception.

The band’s bassist, John Renaud, has worked as an attorney for Turner Classic Movies for more than two decades, and recently, his band life and career collided.

Renauld’s attention was drawn to the TCM podcast “The Plot Thickens: Here’s Pam,” which explores the life and career of actress Pam Grier, best known for her heroic roles in Blaxploitation films such as 1973’s “Coffy” and 1974’s “Foxy Brown.”

Discovering Cadillac Jones’ soundtrack, Renauld was asked if some of his band’s music could be used on a podcast. He agreed, and this donation was the catalyst for a new project by Cadillac Jones called Foxy Jones.

This new band stars Awleen, best known as the lead singer of the Atlanta rock band Rack. This is Cadillac’s first venture into adding sound to their music.

In this interview, executive producer Kim Drobes talks to Renauld and Awleen to discuss how Foxy Jones takes cues from the 1970s while leaning on Pam Grier’s voice canon.
