Against the backdrop of the European market launch of the Omoda and Jaecoo Group brands, the strategic decision underlines Chery’s commitment to the presence of the European market and future innovations in the electric field. This underlines the development team at Raunheim claims to have a greater role in design and engineering in the global Chery Group in the future.

The Raunheim development center, which opened in 2018, has developed over the past 5 years to become one of the most important R&D and design locations within the group’s international development and design network from the Chinese province of Anhui. The ongoing expansion will result in a greater focus on the Chinese carmaker’s European operations than ever before. “We plan to double the number of employees in the next 12 months,” explains Jochen Tüting, Managing Director of Chery Europe GmbH. “Along with the launch of our Omoda and Jaecoo brands in 9 major European and other smaller markets, we want to increase our R&D staff to 120 employees by the end of 2024.”

In a location not far from Frankfurt Airport, Chery handles the development of new products and country-specific solutions. This included design development, simulation and testing as well as hardware and mechanical design of the product. The experts also took on major project management responsibilities for various business areas within the Chery Group. “New things are also created here that would not find their way to Europe,” explains Tüting, citing the high-end Design Studio, which provides creative ideas for almost all brands of international companies.
