Chevrolet removes the roof from the Corvette Stingray Convertible

A classic Corvette Stingray roof is possible, because it has a hard-top. But Chevrolet now also comes with a full convertible: the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible.

Chevrolet took a completely different approach with the new Corvette. Instead of a big engine over the front wheels, the brand moved the V8 to the middle of the car, between the front and rear axles. The brand also made the sports car convertible as usual. Every Corvette C8 has a removable hard-top. But that apparently isn’t enough for the gentlemen of Chevrolet, because now they’re coming up with a real, full-on carbio: the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible..

From the beginning

Of course, such a conversion to a converter does not happen without an increase in weight. But since the Coupe was already roofless, Chevrolet didn’t have to do much to create a complete convertible. It also helps that the new Corvette is designed as a convertible from the ground up. According to the Americans, the car is strong enough to withstand the convertible shape. This means that a little extra reinforcement is added to ensure the stiffness of the bodywork.

A total of six electric motors are installed for the electric folding roof. This means that the roof slides directly under the hood. This no longer has a glass plate, so the V8 is not visible in the Converter. Due to all the modifications, the new version of the C8 without a roof weighs only 36 kg more than the Coupé variant.

Different

The Corvette remains the same in terms of engine and looks. This means that it still has a turboless 6.2 liter V8 with 495 hp and 637 nm that drives the rear wheels. Another difference is the price. Americans have to pay $7,500 over the regular price of $59,995 for the Convertible. From next year we can also expect both variants for European dealers. Maybe the prices will be higher.
