Will Brown beat the Chevrolet Bulls in the Taupo showdown. De Pasquale won the Jason Richards Memorial Award
Will Brown won the Chevrolet Bull duel in Taupo, New Zealand. This time there is no rain, but at the end of the race it started to decrease a little, but this had no effect. However, the amount of rubber left on the pitch. Penrite dominated Matt Payne’s Ford Mustang in the opening stages of the race, but was overtaken by Broc Feeney in the T8 Red Bull Ampol-Camaro on lap eleven. Two laps later Feeney finally passed Payne and on lap 15 it was the turn of Anton de Pasquale in the DJR Shell V Power Ford Mustang to end Payne’s deception. It didn’t take long before Feeney’s teammate Will Brown also joined in to dislodge Payne from P3. The top 3 consisting of Feeney, De Pasquale and Brown would completely decide the shape of the match.
In the 18th round the first series of holes started. De Pasquale came in first with Feeney, Brown, Payne and defending champion Brodie Kostecki following one lap later. After Cameron Waters had to stop on lap 22, the lead was once again in the hands of Broc Feeney, followed by De Pasquale, Brown, Slade and Golding. The light raindrops had absolutely no effect on the speed of the leading group. Golding quickly had to give up his fifth place to Kostecki, Mostert and LeBrocq. The pressure was too great. Meanwhile, the gap between Feeney and teammate Will Brown was less than three seconds.
Anton de Pasquale was delighted to win the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy. A brave V8 Supercar driver who left us very early in 2011 and died of cancer and raced to the finish.
Defending champion Brodie Kostecki suffered a bit of bad luck on lap 39 when his Team Erebus had to fit an old tire instead of a new one. After Feeney made his second and final stop on lap 41, his lead had shrunk significantly. Brown also made his final stop later and the difference was less than 2.5 seconds. Saturday’s winner André Heimgartner completed the final pit lap on lap 43.
On lap 47, Feeney and Brown were wheel to wheel and both drivers received a message from Red Bull “headquarters” that they were free to run. And it was a “clean competition” between the players of both teams. On lap 49, Brown tried in T11 on the outside, then Broc got a big push from his teammate in T7. He then left the door open to his teammate on lap 52. It then took Brown just three laps to build his lead further. Reigning champion Due to an incident with Richie Stanaway, defending champion Brodie Kostecki was penalized with a five-second penalty in the final round.
Richards’ parents present the Trophy to De Pasquale.
In the end, the difference between the two Camaros was just 3.3584 seconds. Anton de Pasquale finished third and took home the Jason Richards Memorial Trophy for his two podium results. In the standings of the championship, the difference between the two counterparts of T8 Red Bull Ampol Racing is 71 points.
It is a pity that Heimgartner failed to win the JR Memorial Award. He would like to win.
