Citroen 2CV from Argentina with open window. It was created in a sewing machine factory! | French.pl

Another milestone for the Citroën brand is approaching. On February 18, 1960, production of the Citroen 2CV began in Argentina. This car was affordable, available and in its own way changed the way we travel.

Citroen Argentina Sociedad Anónima was founded on Wednesday, March 25, 1959, by Decree 3693/59 of the National Executive. Production of the Citroen 2 CV began at the Jeppener plant almost a year later, on Thursday, February 18, 1960. The production location was changed because the target plant was still under construction in the Barracas district of Buenos Aires. The plants were owned by CATITA SA (Compañía Argentina de Talleres Industriales del Transporte y Afines), a company that manufactured everything from trams and buses to stoves and water heaters.

The new factory opened on Tuesday, May 31, 1960, with the production of the 101st Citroën 2 CV. The first 100 units were produced at the Brandsen factory, which was owned by Pfaff Bromberg SAIC (Sociedad Anónima Industrial y Comercial), a company that produces… sewing machines. Producing a simple-to-build 2CV was not a big task for the crew.

Citroen 2 CV went through various improvements and modifications. One of the most interesting changes requested by customers is the addition of hinged rear windows, as seen in the photo above. This solution was used in Argentina and England. Interestingly, a version was also produced in which the front windows were also folded, but in the form of glass, i.e. facing the direction of travel.
