The Cupra-badged Ateca has been on the market since 2018. It was slightly refreshed three years ago, but it must be honestly admitted that it is a model that shows the passage of time. However, this does not prevent the Ateca from being a great car that combines practicality with excellent handling.

The body shape, designed by Seat, differs stylistically from the Formentor. It’s very simple, a little boxy, but it’s fine. Quad exhaust tips and rims with bronze accents add character. However, behind the simple body there is a practical focus of the car.

Body length is 4.39 m. High doors allow for comfortable ingress and egress. There is plenty of space, both in the front and rear rows of seats, and the boot has a capacity of 485 litres, although it looks bigger.

Ateca can be a good car for daily driving. This is due, among other things, to flexible suspension, comfortable (albeit sporty) seats, a smooth gearbox and a well-insulated interior. In the central tunnel we can fit one large and one small cup, and we can charge the phone wirelessly or use the USB-C ports.

The center console is the most revealing that the Ateca is not a new model. It is simple, maybe a little, but very easy to use. There are large buttons and buttons for operating the climate and the classic display of the set temperature. With the press of a button, we can turn the system off and turn on the 360-degree camera view quickly and easily. This mode of operation is much easier than changing the temperature using the touch panel or setting the air flow direction in the climate menu on the touch screen.

Multimedia works quite effectively, although the most important thing for me was the support of Apple CarPlay. The central screen is integrated into the dashboard in good old fashion. No sticking or sticking out. Its size may differ from more modern models, but it is still comfortable to use. A second screen can be found behind the steering wheel. Digital clocks offer a variety of display modes and a wide range of customization of the information displayed. They look great and run great and are easy to read.

There is a button in the center tunnel to turn off the traction control. Press once to switch the ESP and TC systems to game mode, and a long press results in a complete shutdown. There is also a knob to select the driving mode, and there are a few to choose from: Comfort, Sport, Cupra, Offroad, Snow and a configurable mode. Changes can also be made using a button on the steering wheel. To have it, you need to choose a heated sports steering wheel in the configurator for PLN 2,787. It is useful to do this so that you also have the engine start button on the steering wheel.

Cupra Ateca is a comfortable and practical car, but let’s not forget about the spirit of the brand, which is fully expressed in the 300-horsepower version with all-wheel drive. If we want a sporty ride, this car will do it easily. Sprint to 100 takes 4.9 seconds, which is a very good result. The gearbox has 7 gears and can change them very quickly and efficiently to select the gear to meet the needs of the driver.

The operating system, which has very little directness, leaves a certain feeling of dissatisfaction. It’s a pity, because the Ateca is a smart and responsive car that willingly turns corners and listens to the driver. However, you can’t go wrong with a four-wheel drive, which works very efficiently. Even with poor grip, the Ateca has no problem accelerating efficiently. Even if we want to press the gas pedal harder and the wheels are turned, the car will be distributed so that it does not cause steering or steering, and the Cupra drives in the direction set by the driver. All this makes this SUV drive like a rally car. This comparison may seem exaggerated, but it is true.

In summary, the Cupra Ateca is a very precise and practical car. Usually, this can be said about cars that are boring and do not evoke much emotion, but not in the case of this model. Despite its performance, the Cupra-badged Ateca can give the driver a lot of fun. 300 HP is quite enough here, especially since the transfer of this power to the asphalt is very good and efficient, even in bad conditions.
