Estro Plays First Seconds Out (Returned)

Seconds Out can be described not only as Genesis’ live masterpiece but a musical masterpiece, iconic from cover to cover. Recorded in Paris in 1977 (apparently the French capital inspires British bands, see Paris and Supertramp), it was the first live show that no longer featured Peter Gabriel as the leader of the group, but Phil Collins in the dual role of singer and drummer dance , after the four members looked for a quality alternative. The specialty of the album is the use, for the first time, of two drums, while Chester Thompson is remembered in his circles with Collins. In only one song is Thompson absent (The Cinema Show), replaced by two other exceptional tracks: Bill Bruford’s.

Shortly afterwards Steve Hackett will also leave the group, but surprisingly from this time Genesis will move forward towards international dedication, their musical line will go from the development of the early 70’s to a more mixed sound, and then land in the pop of very advanced. , enhanced by that continuous pollution (influenced by Collins’s extraordinary solo work) that has allowed Genesis to maintain their success unchanged for decades, with all the respect it deserves – not so much (we can almost hear the sigh) – of those who are more grounded and stubborn. opponents of the critical turning point made during the …And Then There Were Three…

In their live version, Estro uses two drums in a row and you can feel it. Pino Vecchioni and Ugo Cosentino slightly dominate the overall sound, but being in a live performance is also understandable. The second drummer (Cosentino) abandons his main instrument only to pick up an acoustic guitar when necessary, leaving Roberto D’Amore with sole vocal duties (so to speak). As we repeat every time we find ourselves in front of adult musicians, the band does not tend to make inappropriate performances, the choice of sound and arrangements is as faithful as possible to the original, as each audience should receive and expect, but also as everyone. another “serious” musician should want to explain to those who listen to him, regardless of his age or other people.

Therefore, we find ourselves faced with a show that meets the sound quality and the unique visual quality, the result of a great work that is not always part of the live event. Everything else (and this is no small thing) is the result of the composition of those five visionary boys who from the 70s onwards wrote unforgettable pages of textual music, perhaps without even realizing what they were composing. Our sincere thanks go to Genesis and to those who continue to produce its symbols today.

With this concert, Estro completed an important tribute to two great original Genesis albums: they had done it a few years ago by bringing the Lamb on stage in the form of a concert+ballet (see The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway Show ) and they completed it today with Seconds Out If would like to continue, we can also suggest performing the concert at the Circus Maximus in 2007 (see Genesis: When in Rome). Purists will protest that there are no discs but only DVDs, but we are not purists, we are just ordinary fans of good music, and Damn Genesis!

I was born a computer scientist and decades ago, for a few years I have also been a journalist and always grumpy. I recently discovered social media (but I don’t understand it yet).
