Formula 1: Bad mistake? Ferrari must admit it itself

It is said that athletes often perform best when important decisions for the future are made. Things are a little different with Carlos Sainz in Formula 1. The Spaniard’s future is uncertain, his contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the year. The Scuderia decided not to extend his contract and instead snapped up superstar Lewis Hamilton.

The Brit will drive alongside Charles Leclerc next year. While the two drivers have failed to perform at all in this year’s Formula 1 season, Sainz is blossoming more and more. Now many fans are asking themselves the question: Did the Ferrari bosses fire the wrong driver?

Formula 1: Ferrari’s worst mistakes?

Carlos Sainz, of all people, was able to end Red Bull’s dominance in Australia, even if Max Verstappen was out with a technical fault. However, the Spaniard is having a great season in Formula 1 and is driving like he’s unlocked. It’s hard to believe, but this Sainz still doesn’t have a contract next year. His contract expires and Ferrari have chosen Lewis Hamilton.

Especially explosive: Sainz was ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc in three of the four races, who is seen as the Scuderia’s No. 1 and has a long-term contract there. Only the appendix operation slowed Sainz down this season.

While Sainz is convincing, Leclerc and Hamilton have been disappointing so far. The Ferrari driver in particular is criticized because he again crossed the finish line behind Sainz. It is not without reason that many fans ask themselves the question: Did the Ferrari bosses make a big mistake by not extending the contract with Sainz?

Sainz drives better than Leclerc

“I’m fast right now,” said Sainz, who has been making Leclerc look bad so far this season in Formula 1. According to race results, Sainz is 3:0, in qualifying he is 2:1. Had it not been for an additional operation which meant he could not drive in Saudi Arabia, he would also be ahead of the Monegasques in the World Cup standings.

And what does Ferrari driver Hamilton do next? With ten points, he is currently 9th in the drivers’ standings. This is another tragedy for the Mercedes driver. The Brit has been waiting for a Grand Prix win since 2021.

There is certainly a big concern for the Scuderia that Sainz will thrive with another team next year, while Leclerc and Hamilton may give up on the red car.
