The 2023 edition of the FIA ecoRally Cup, a championship dedicated to electric cars, starts with the Östersund Winter Eco Rally. For the first time the tournament is held in Sweden. The only Italian crew at the start will be Team Autotest Motorsport with the duo made up of Sansepolcro driver Guido Guerrini and Polish co-driver Artur Prusak on board. The two have returned from second place in the overall standings last year and out victory in the final race of the season in the Dolomites in November.
This year it is possible that the defending world champions, Basques Conde and Sergnese, will not be at the match, but there will be many top-level workers at the start from the Swedish race: from Malga-Bonnel of France, world champions in 2018, and Mucchielli- Maxime for Czechs Žďárský-Nábělek, third in 2022, from Poles Dimitrov-Pavlov to Belgians Heine-Piette, to other Czechs Timura-Timura, to Romanians Mester-Socaricin.
The race, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, will be controlled by low temperatures, between ice and snow, and this may also favor many home teams. As in the previous season, many workers will focus on Kia or Hyundai, due to the excellent performance guaranteed by Korean cars in the classification of energy efficiency which contributes, as usual for sports, to determine the standards. Guerrini and Prusak in Sweden will be in the Kia e-Niro used in 2022, while for the continuation of the championship there is a possibility to switch to a new model from the same manufacturer.
