Centuries before the birth of the first Mazda (R360 in 1960) at the site of Hiroshima, Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun, despaired of seeing his horsemen shoot arrows without following their targets. He forced them to train without weakness, yabusame. He wanted to see his people become one with their mountain more effectively and gracefully. The Japanese manufacturer, always proud of its roots, wanted to restore the spirit of this important part in the country’s history, to celebrate in its own way the “Jinba Ittai” that today inspires the various works of the brand.
Like the warriors of old, today’s drivers must blend in with their machine. The CX-30 is certainly not the most representative example of this association of modern times, but it can rely on its attractive and hybrid style (a little coupe, a little SUV but not quite) to seduce new perspectives. In this fully equipped exclusive Line finish, this other “3” variant (they share the same platform) does not lack charm.
It’s good to live on board
Leather roof, electric sunroof, head-up display, variable LED lights, ample 18” rims, power seat adjustment, water lines and a sliding roof, the outfit is tastefully trimmed. Inside, further confirmation of Mazda’s now “premium” position with unmatched quality, materials and finishes included. The cockpit happily oscillates between the raised seat that characterizes the Sport Utility and the cockpits around the field of our favorite sports cars. In this area, the CX-30 disappoints us with a slight tendency to roll and a gearbox that complains if we don’t handle it gently, but it pleasantly surprises us otherwise. The performance is quite average for the segment, the utility remains in all conditions and the comfort (including three-star seats) transforms long transfers into leisure trips. Screams of pain
It’s good to live on board and you quickly forget the main screen away from the competition reference. Still untouched, you can use voice control (not always responsive), physical buttons, or the “wheel” placed in front of the center of the hand. Like many cars today and unfortunately this is just the beginning, the law requires, various driving devices can spoil part of the journey, however (still) it is easy to “turn off” and we cannot deny ourselves. !
In Mazda in recent years, the first pleasure is visual. With the CX-30, it’s a real treat! The drawing is once again a complete success and it would almost be enough in itself to sign the order form.
