Alfa Romeo Milano (2024): This is Alfa’s first electric car

The Milano is Alfa Romeo’s new entry-level model. It has only an electric drive, but it will also be available as a hybrid. And because Alfisti love sports, there’s also a more aggressive Veloce version.

No mention of Brennero: Alfa Romeo actually used to name its SUVs after the Alpine. This is the case with the great Stelvio (Passo Stelvio, Stilfserjoch) and also the Tonale (Passo Tonale, Tonalepass). That’s why there were rumors for a long time that Alfa’s small SUV could be called “Brennero” (Brenner Pass). But now it is clear: the new one is called “Milano” and it refers to Alfa Romeo’s city in Lombardy.

Electric and Hybrid

If the Italians decided on the Brennero, then the party may be wrong, at least to German-speaking ears – that is, combustion engines. But the Milano is Alfa’s first electric car. “Elettrica” is an additional name for how everything sounds better in Italian. “Ibrida” also caresses the ear canal more pleasantly than the unusual term “hybrid”: alongside the fully electric version, the Milano will also be available with a limited electric version.

But first things first: the Milano completes Alfa’s portfolio, which previously included the Tonale, Stelvio and Giulia sports sedan, to form a quartet. With a length of 4.17 meters, it competes in the popular segment of the SUV market. In addition to DS and Lancia, Alfa Romeo is one of the first brands of the Stellantis Group, which has brothers of the Milano platform such as Jeep Avenger, Opel Mokka Electric, Peugeot E-2008 and Fiat 600 Elektro.

An attractive compact SUV

The design will not only please Alfisti. Milano has been a very good representative of its type, well-planned, with sports muscles, with short overhangs, behind a sharp slope and of course the obligatory detail of the Scudetto radiator grille, which is available in the traditional version (Leggenda) or in the version more modern (Progresso).

In the premium interior there is a small, flat-bottom steering wheel and, in addition to a number of physical controls, a digital driver’s instrument in the “Cannochiale” telescopic housing. A large touch screen stores information, as is common today. The ChatGPT AI program acts as a normal passenger and is useful for navigation, it provides advice and information about your destination or places of interest along the way, but it also knows how to explain the technical functions of the vehicle and, if desired, offers passengers Milano. and stories or questions.

It delivers 240 PS

The electric drive has an output of 115 kW/156 hp, and a 54 kWh battery serves as energy storage, which should enable a range of up to 410 km. The Milano draws alternating current from a wall box with up to 11 kW, and can handle charging fast with an average of 100 kW Basically, the battery can be brought from 10 to 80 percent in less than half an hour. A little later in the year, Alfa introduced the powerful Milano Elettrica 240 Veloce, lowered by 25 millimeters, equipped with sports suspension and producing 176 kW/240 hp.

Good rear: Alfa calls the steep rear “Coda Tronca”.

At the market launch in September, the Milano will also be available with a standard motor. The Ibrida gets a 100 kW / 136 hp 1.2 l three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, which is connected in a hybrid system with a 48-volt battery and an electric motor (21 kW / 29 hp). An all-wheel-drive hybrid variant will follow later in the year. The Elettrica, on the other hand, ditches it with front-wheel drive.

Price from 30,000 euros

It is said that orders will start “shortly” and only then will the exact price be announced. Starting with the Milano Elettrica it should be under 40,000 euros and with the Ibrida just under 30,000 euros.

Unfortunately, the Milano is not built in Milan or anywhere else in Italy: along with the Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600 Elektro, it rolls off the assembly line in Tychy, Poland.
