Porsche Cups: Two wins for Harry King and two podiums for Larry ten Voorde in Emilia Romagna

Englishman Harry King received the trophies for the opening races of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland twice on the highest step of the podium at Imola. Our colleague Larry ten Voorde was also allowed to do this, but twice one step lower. Officially Ten Voorde won the first race but was dropped to P2 due to a time penalty. The advantage for Ten Voorde is that Ariel Levi’s car was rejected after the first race.

2024 Larry Ten Voorde
Larry ten Voorde has already started the season by selling trophies.
Harry King has won twice. Two podiums for Larry ten Voorde in Emilia Romagna
For the first race at Imola, 24-year-old Huub van Eijndhoven started from pole for the first time in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. Unfortunately, Huub stepped on the gas too early with his 376 kW/510 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and was immediately penalized by the stewards for a fast start. As a result, Ariel Levi (GP Elite Team) took the lead for the first time in his career. For seven laps, GP Elite rider Larry ten Voorde managed to put a rival from his former team behind him in the Proton Huber Championship. Ten Voorde then launched a successful attack on his opponent. A push towards the GP Elite Porsche Team was not appreciated by the race officials, resulting in Ten Voorde being handed a four-second penalty. Being the sportsman that he is, Larry agreed.

2024 Harry King
Harry King did good business at Imola.

Larry ten Voorde: “I saw a hole that was actually not as big as I expected and for that I apologize to Ariel. Mainly because it went wrong. Harry King: “I would have preferred to pass him on the track. I approached the race methodically and waited too long for the opportunity to pass Ariel. In any case, a points win is definitely a good start to the new season.” Unfortunately, Levi was only allowed to enjoy his victory for a short time because the technical inspection showed that there was less than 2 liters of fuel per petrol sample in the tank.

It meant that Larry was placed second and Robert de Haan third. De Haan took the win in the Rookies classification with his Team 75 Bernhard Porsche. Sören Spreng (GP Elite) won the ProAm classification. Alexander Pollich CEO of Porsche Germany GmbH: “Respect for the management who had to make two solid and understandable decisions. I am pleased with the podium result of Robert de Haan. He is one of the youngest riders we support in the Talent Pool.

2024 Ariel Levi
It was a shame for Ariel Levi that he was eliminated after the first competition.

For Harry King it meant two wins on Sunday. Defending champion Larry ten Voorde finished second for the Huber Proton Racing team, while Frenchman Marvin Klein finished third for the Italian Destination Racing team.

From the second starting point on the grid, Harry made the decisive move after a few metres. At the first chicane, pole sitter Theo Oeverhaus (Bonk Motorsport) had to work and Larry ten Voorde was also unable to keep the Bonk Motorsport driver behind him.

Harry King: “Saturday’s race was very good, but together with my engineer I managed to make the car faster today. The double win made it a great weekend.” The battle at the first chicane ended badly for Oeverhaus. After contact with King, the closing pole of the 911 GT3 Cup was hit to such an extent that Oeverhaus was unfortunately forced to give up.

Larry ten Voorde has made a strong start to his pursuit of a fourth German Porsche Carrera Cup title with two podium finishes. Larry ten Voorde: “Unlike Saturday, I got off to a good start where the team’s hard work was rewarded. After that I stayed away from changing positions and focused on the match.”

2024 Flynt Schuring
In any case, Flynt Schuring started the season following in the footsteps of his brother Morris.

Third place originally went to Team 75 Bernhard Porsche, but the 17-year-old Dutchman was given a time penalty, which dropped him to 14th. Frenchman Marvin Klein therefore took over. Fourth place was claimed by Ariel Levi (Team Elite), followed by Austrian Felix Felbermayer (Huber Proton Competition) and Huub van Eijndhoven (GP Elite Team).

Flynt Schuring capped off a strong performance at the Huber Proton Challenge with a win in the singles category. And just like on Saturday, Sören Spreng once again managed to hold the first place in the ProAm rankings. Spreng: “I took part in a fight with my ProAm teammate Michael Essmann. Fortunately I managed to defend my position.”

2024 Huub van Eijndhoven
Huub van Eijndhoven finished twice in the Top 6

Project manager Hurui Issaak: “With our new partner we had a good start to the new season and I fully support the decisions of the Managers. I was particularly pleased with the position of Theo Oeverhaus and the podium result of Robert de Haan, two drivers from our talented group. We will see many good results from the eight riders who are part of this.
