MAZDA CX-5 IS AGAIN THE MOST POPULAR TOW CAR – Autonieuws


The Mazda CX-5 is the most popular caravan tractor in the Netherlands for the sixth year in a row, according to ACSI FreeLife Magazine’s flagship Trekauto survey, which has been conducted annually since 2018. According to the 2023 survey, more than nine percent of vehicles the all new tow truck in the Netherlands will be the Mazda CX-5. Mazda CX-60 Plug-in Hybrid is, after the CX-5, the most popular caravan tractor in the Netherlands new cars purchased. ACSI has been an expert on camping in Europe since 1965 and conducted a survey of almost 4,000 respondents.

Mazda continues to hold the lead

An impressive development can be seen in new cars purchased in 2023. The Mazda CX-60, which already made an impressive debut in the 2022 statistics with tenth place, has now risen to second place with a market share of 10.3 percent. There are no signs that Mazda’s leading position is in jeopardy. With the CX-5 in first place, Mazda now has a market share of 22.8 percent among new caravan tractors purchased.

The ACSI FreeLife Magazine Tow Car survey also shows that most caravan owners have a vehicle with a petrol engine, but the share has fallen slightly from 68.15 per cent in the 2022 survey to 64.33 per cent now. Caravan owners also drive newer vehicles than the average car owner. The average age of the Dutch car fleet is 11.4 years, but half of the caravan owners have a car that is no more than five years old. According to the study, more than 80 percent of the towing vehicles in the Netherlands are less than ten years old. Dutch trailers are also almost all privately owned. Only 3.12 percent of caravan owners have a company car or a rental car. Another three percent have private rental construction and the rest are privately purchased.

Thanks to the 17.8 kWh battery that supplies the electric motor with energy, the Mazda CX-60 has a combined power of 241kW (327hp). The Mazda CX-60 has a permissible towing weight of 2,500 kg. These powerful SUVs from Mazda are therefore ideal vehicles for towing, for example, a caravan, a tent trailer or a horse trailer; where daily commuting can be done by electricity.
