After the station wagon, Skoda is launching the Superb sedan in France

When it was launched in early January 2024, the Skoda Superb was only available in Combi station wagon body. A few months later, the body of the sedan appeared on the list. While its close cousin, the Volkswagen Passat, has done away with the sedan and put only its Passat SW station wagon variant, Skoda still leaves the choice to the customer, despite the increasingly weak demand for “notchbacks”.

Therefore, as a station wagon, the Superb sedan initially has two engines and two finishes. The entry level is represented by the Selection version, which already has a lot of equipment, while finishing L&K (for Laurin & Klement, the founders of the brand) has the role of the top of the range. A Sportline finish will soon join the lineup to offer a more flexible model.

There is no plug-in hybrid for the sedan

Under the hood, there are two thermal units that work before: TSI 1.5 of 150 hp, slightly mixed in gasoline, and 2.0 TDI of 150 hp also in diesel. Both engines are mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The first starts at €44,380 in the Select finish, while the diesel requires a minimum of €47,880 in the same finish. Plug-in hybrid engines will be offered later, but only on the station wagon due to low demand here.

So the sedan is slightly more expensive than the station wagon, logically, with a difference of €1,100 for the same trim and engine. With the competition becoming more available (Renault Talisman, Opel Insignia or Volvo S90/V90 are gone), we have to turn to premium brands, which are more expensive, to find rivals. Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class or BMW 5 Series have almost the same size (even if BMW has grown a lot with the new generation and exceeds 5 meters) but it changes in other aspects. Calculate €58,200 for Audi (163 hp diesel), €64,750 for Mercedes (204 hp petrol) or €62,800 for BMW (208 hp petrol).
