Mazda Arata: Electric SUV as rival to Tesla Model Y

Mazda launched a research SUV in the format of the CX-5 at the Beijing motor show, which is scheduled to come to market as an electric rival to the Tesla Model Y in 2025. As for the EZ-6, the electric Mazda 6, which was launched at the same time , customers will also have a choice between a fully electric hybrid vehicle and a plug-in Arata SUV.

Like its sedan counterpart, the Mazda Arata comes from a joint venture with Chinese partner Changan. So it could be a redesigned flagship but technically closely related to the Changan Deepal S7. In terms of specifications, the Chinese Mazda is in the same league as the Mazda CX-5, which is widespread in this country.

With a 1.5-liter gasoline engine on board, the 31 kWh battery in these models is enough for up to 200 kilometers of electric-only travel. The total range is 1,120 km. It is not yet known whether the Mazda Arata will come to Europe after its market launch in China. However, the success of conventional SUVs in this country increases the chances of a large electric SUV.
