Pirro is leaving McLaren after just one year

Overseeing McLaren’s Driver Development Program from spring 2023, former F1 driver and five-time Le Mans winner Emmanuele Pirro has given up his apron without giving a reason…

Like almost all Formula 1 teams, McLaren has its own academy and had handed the keys to the Italian veteran.

After revealing Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne, the Woking junior program contributed to the emergence of Lando Norris, while Oscar Piastri trained at the Alpine Racing Academy as everyone knows.

In just a few months in this role, Pirro had followed up hopefuls in his group such as young American Ugo Ugochukwu, a supporter of McLaren CEO Zak Brown, and appointed Filipina Bianca Bustamante to represent McLaren’s colors in the women’s F1 Academy series. .

Recently, he had set his sights on FIA Formula 3 champion Gabriel Bortoleto to promote him to F2 at MP Motorsport. His role also included following development driver Pato O’Ward (pictured above) and team representatives in Formula E.

“After a year of hard work and satisfaction, I will be leaving McLaren, Pirro pointed out. With the help of the Formula 1 team, I was able to put in place a structure to help develop talented, hard-working young drivers into McLaren’s future champions. ยป
