The successor to the Mazda 6 comes as a hybrid plug-in and electric car

What characterizes a truly successful design? I’m of the opinion that it just gets old slowly. Anyone who agrees with this theory will not be able to deny that the current Mazda 6 has a successful design. The car has been on the market in this form since 2012; In 2018 there were a few adjustments and retouches. But the basic form has not been touched for 12 years. “Auto China 2024” also shows Mazda a possible successor to the EZ-6.

The EZ-6 in this form is clearly intended only for the Chinese market. The first pictures show the luxury sedan hatchback that follows the previous model in some ways. It is 4.92 m long and therefore offers plenty of space in the back. The seats have a resting position where the calf support is folded. There is a large screen on the dashboard that shows a different driving concept than all other familiar Mazda models. Brand probably take a step forward in this matter – but it is also important. You can also see a large panoramic roof that cannot be opened.

The EZ-6 is only offered with rear-wheel drive. The customer has a choice between a plug-in hybrid and a battery electric drive. So far there is only information about the range, and these are obviously based on Chinese standards and therefore cannot be compared to WLTP. The electric car should have a range of 600 km in this cycle, which is driven at a lower speed than usual in WLTP. A total of up to 1000 km is promised for the plug-in combination.

The successor to Mazda 6 produced in this country is expected to be delivered this year and sold by next year at the latest. It will also probably have rear-wheel drive. It is not known what will happen next with the engine, as the brand is always good for surprises in this regard. It is certain that without electricity it will be difficult for Mazda 6 on the European market. However, it is more likely that the Japanese will compete exclusively with combustion engines.
