World Cup points to be redistributed as early as 2025? This is how it goes / System 1

The Formula 1 Commission is discussing introducing a new points system in Formula 1 from 2025, with new World Cup points for the top twelve. The FIA is having a hard time making a decision.

Will Formula 1 drivers also receive a championship point for twelfth place in the future? The F1 Commission discussed this proposal and, according to the FIA, the world motor association, came to the conclusion that this needs to be investigated in more detail. The issue will be discussed again at the next commission meeting in July.

About the decision-making process in the first grade. New ideas are developed in working groups, for example for technology, security or strategy. Ideas from these working groups are passed to the System 1 Commission after a majority vote.

Only the Formula 1 Commission has the discretion to approve, defer or reject the proposal. If the proposal is approved, it is submitted to the FIA World Council (made up of representatives from the world’s car clubs). The proposal is rarely stopped there.

Nothing can be found in the FIA regulations about the current composition of the Formula 1 Commission. At one time it included: a representative of “Formula One Management” (which would normally be the director general of F1 Stefano Domenicali) and the FIA (usually the president, i.e. Mohammed Ben Sulayem), of the representatives of all ten racing teams, the sixth. race promoters (three from Europe, three from abroad) established by the FOM, two representatives from the racetracks (one from Europe, one from abroad) appointed by the team, as well as representatives from the tire manufacturer (i.e. Pirelli ), engine manufacturer and sponsors (two, from different market areas).

FIA and FOM presented the plan for the 2025 World Cup earlier, on April 12. It is not yet clear when and where the tests will be held before the next World Cup season. According to the FIA, various race tracks are being discussed. There is an offer from the Kingdom of Bahrain, but a return to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as a winter testing ground is not ruled out.

What is being decided, however: From the Spanish GP weekend (June 21 to 23), Formula 1 race cars will be equipped with rear-view TV cameras.
