Rolls-Royce rings in the Lunar New Year with 3 dragon-inspired cars

Rolls-Royce has announced some amazing news: they have launched a series of exclusive cars called Year of the Dragon Commissions to celebrate the Lunar New Year. And let us tell you: these cars are nothing short of amazing.

There are three Phantom Extended models and one Cullinan model in this collection, and they have a whole dragon vibe to them. Dragons symbolize strength, prosperity and success in Chinese culture, and Rolls-Royce has done its best to capture that essence.

Excellent work

Craftsmen at the Rolls-Royce home at Goodwood have created these masterpieces, blending tradition and modernity. The dragon motif is not just a copy and paste job; reimagined in a modern way, while retaining its traditional roots.

Hand drawn dragon

This is the fun part. The star of the show is the hand-painted dragon on the front panels of each car. It takes over two weeks to render these dragons using a layering technique that gives them a nice three-dimensional effect. Many shades of red, beautiful colors – you can imagine the level of detail!

Inside the Rolls

Inside, the dragon theme continues with the dynamic dragon embroidery on the headpieces, using 5,449 stitches and over 20 hours of work. And hold on tight, because for the first time in Rolls-Royce history they have introduced a Bespoke Starlight Headliner with a dragon motif made of 677 fiberglass ‘stars’. That’s over 20 hours of careful installation.

And it doesn’t stop there. The exterior designs are as unique as they come, with special color schemes and a subtle dragon motif on the coach line, symbolizing the East and the rising sun. The Shanghai style even has a red “star” to honor the color’s importance in Chinese culture.

Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce speaking

Commenting on these cars, Jonathan Simms, Head of Bespoke at Rolls-Royce, said: “This proposed design, inspired by the Year of the Dragon in 2024, celebrates the global reach and influence of Chinese culture. That’s why these beautiful cars are intended for customers spread across three continents. This design is a powerful expression of our respect for Chinese culture and a modern, understated statement based on the trends we see among luxury consumers around the world.

Rolls-Royce has really outdone itself with these dragons on wheels! About the price of these cars, more about that later!
