Scott Redding (BMW): “I would win” / World Superbike Championship

The arrival of Toprak Razgatlioglu at BMW for the 2024 World Superbike Championship has changed the balance of power significantly. Turk’s victory in Barcelona was not easy for Scott Redding to endure.

It’s hard to understand how one driver can make such a difference. From the very beginning, Toprak Razgatlioglu found himself in the position of the best BMW driver in the Superbike opener at Phillip Island and already got his first podium. In Barcelona, the 2021 world champion followed with three more top results, including two wins.

As he watches his fellow brands, Scott Redding from the Bonovo action team steps up. The Englishman is ranked 16th overall with just ten World Cup points. Redding was one of Razgatlioglu’s biggest critics.

“As happy as I am for him, it’s hard to accept. Because I feel like I’m the one who should win,” admitted the 31-year-old. “Every driver on the grid believes he deserves to win the race. I’ve invested a lot in recent years to make the package competition. Now I have a feeling that the package is good, but I haven’t had the opportunity to shine with it yet. I’m not bitter about it. It motivates me because sometimes you have to accept defeat to cheer yourself up and move forward.”

However, Redding says he was unable to show his true performance in the first two meetings.

“Phillip Island and Barcelona in general are my worst tracks. Although I love Phillip Island, I’ve had a hard time there since I changed manufacturers,” explained the BMW driver. “In Barcelona, the things we have already been working on were improved. My weak point has been the second sector, but this year we were able to improve there. I felt like I drove very well and handled the situation as well as I could. If Toprak wins it will be bad for me, but I feel like I’ve taken another step – you don’t see it because the first two songs aren’t my thing.”

However, Razgatlioglu had never won a race at the Circuit de Catalunya before!

“From the outside, Toprak is doing a fantastic job,” Redding said approvingly. “I have to congratulate him because he did something I didn’t think was possible. I would have bet my life that he wouldn’t have won the race in Barcelona and he proved me wrong. It’s hard to swallow losing to someone with a similar bike. At the same time you have to show respect for that.”
