Skoda Fabia – It’s Saturday and so it’s time for a regular appointment with a new episode of ‘How it is & How it goes’: this week it’s the turn of the small sedan of the Czech brand, now in its fourth generation, and history. which started in 1999 is now very far Youth Editionwith distinctive aesthetic features and numerous technologies.
Size and design
This version does not change the traditional dimensions of the Czech sedan: it is 4.11 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.46 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2.56 meters. L’back home it is ideal for two-sided passengers, with enough space for the knees and the head, while the middle one is sacrificed more, because of the central tunnel and the cabinet. There are no air vents and USB charging sockets for the rear passengers. The trunk The Skoda Fabia is very capable, considering it’s a small car, with a capacity of 380 to 1,190 liters when the rear seats are folded down. Practically the cargo space of a mid-sized car. In addition, the door is wide, but there is a step, quite pronounced, which can make loading and unloading your luggage a little uncomfortable.
Compared to other versions, the Skoda Fabia Young Edition offers black glass hoods and 15-inch alloy wheels as standard, along with Race metallic color Blue of our test car. For others, the car is characterized by a combination of mature and clear lines, with sharp edges and pronounced corners, typical of this model. Among the different features there are also LED lights, and a crystal recall design. From the side you can see the line that follows the entire side of the car from front to back, and the alloy wheels mentioned above, while at the back, beyond the square lines, in front there is writing Skodaproviding a more elegant style.
Interior and technology
As we were saying, there is a lot of technology in front of the Youth Edition version, starting from the cockpit, where we find digital instrument panel 8-inch screen and 8.25-inch central screen for system control infotainment. The first can be customized, with a lot of information about the state of the car, while the second also offers a wireless connection with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as access to driving data and My Skoda app. It’s bright and easy to use, with ultra-modern graphics, and DAB+ digital radio reception. There are two front USB-C sockets for charging your devices, not a wireless plate and there is air conditionerbut it is only a guide.
The interior of the car of the Czech brand is characterized by the extensive use of hard plastic, except for the center console in Satin Black. The comfortable seats are cloth, while the multifunction steering wheel is in two-tone leather, with controls for the radio, telephone and managing the instrument panel. There is no shortage of easy storage compartments, period air conditioner vents they can only be directed up or down, but not sideways.
Road test
Now is the time to get behind the wheel of a compact, engine-driven sedan 1.0 TSI petrol with 95 horsepower and 175 Nm maximum torque. A pusher too more brilliant than you can imagine, with a smart run, to overcome the intersection or pass without making any effort. Always keeping in mind that we are behind the wheel of an unassuming sports car, which makes comfort a strong point.
From this point of view, there are no negative aspects to report, given that it is a car that can deliver the best sound blocking, even at higher speeds on the road, and wisely absorb the connections of the terrain, even if the most pronounced ones are heard a little inside the passenger compartment. Just as good as it is to be known, front and rear, small and only five passengers. Also of five-speed manual gearbox it works well, with well-aligned and regular gears, as we get smooth, but direct and precise steering. In short, they are suitable for this category of cars. Unlike other models, even in this segment, there are no driving lanes.
All with a package of ADAS perfect, precisely to help the best driver, especially the young and inexperienced ones. In fact, there is Front Assist with automatic braking and detection of pedestrians and cyclists, Lane Keeping Assist, traffic sign recognition and driver fatigue monitoring and, in this version of the Youth Edition, they add front and back. sensors and rear camera.
As always, in fasting we focus consumption of Skoda Fabia Young Edition. For this engine, the Czech company has announced an average consumption in the combined WLTP cycle of between 5 and 5.2 liters per 100 km. We traveled more than 500 km at the wheel of this model and the on-board computer reported an average consumption of 5.6 liters per 100 km, about 17 km per liter.
