Supercar Challenge: Laurens de Wit champion in Supersport 2
In Assen it is again the Thomas Piessens/Sam Dejonghe team that is racing in the final phase. The couple Lea Mauer and Gary Hauser, with their powerful Norma LMP3, are flagged for the second time, ahead of Max Tubben who could not have imagined a better first race in the BMW M6 GT3 and won the GT category. Congratulations to Remco de Beus, who won the Supersport 1 category with the JR Motorsport BMW E46 M3. After a late visit from leader Gilles van Houtum, Teunis de Grift wins the Supersport 2 category with his Golf TCR, while Laurens de Wit takes his coveted title in second place. In the Sport category, the De Jong/Hoekstra team wins the match.

Many champions are known in the GT, Supersport 1 and Sport divisions. At Spa-Francorchamps it was Bart Arendsen and Dennis de Borst who took the titles. Yesterday during qualifying Mark Jobst was added as the best in the Sport category.
The difference between the two current LMP3s in the highest Prototype 1 category between the couple Gary Hauser and Lea Mauer and the second car of Max Aschoff is only six points. In the CN category there is only one top team this year. The Norma of Deldiche Racing, with Thomas Piessens and Sam Dejonghe at the wheel, was unbeatable. In the Radical Division, Melvin van Dam needs only a few points to call himself the best. Martin Lucas is 21 points behind in Assen, so the MV Motorsport driver only has to deal with father-son Greenhalgh’s Johan Kraan Motorsport Radical SR1.
Great tension is expected in the Supersport 2 category where yesterday five cars completed their qualifying laps within one second. There is also championship contender Laurens de Wit who blew the engine of his Cupra during free practice yesterday. Bas Koeten Racing’s father Koeten went straight to the workshop in Westwoud to get a new engine and quickly returned to Assen, where the new engine was installed by Koeten Academy Racing and Technova mechanics. Around 11 o’clock in the evening they finished this great work. Laurens de Wit therefore has to start both races from the back to secure the remaining seven points.
Prototypes start first, followed by separate starts with GTs and three Sport divisions. Max Aschoff has the best start, followed by Thomas Piessens and Alain Berg, who goes too far in Haarbocht, but can continue his journey.
In the next established group Bart Arendsen has the best start followed by BMW brand partners Mex Jansen and Max Tubben.
The race has just started when the safety car appears on the track. Mark Wieringa and his Zilhouette, after contacting Axel Jansen, went out and plowed into the gravel of the Hoge Heide. Wieringa went too far and returned to the track, where he crashed into the BMW M2 40. Jansen can continue and is not to blame, Wieringa retires.
The entire unit is reassembled and continues behind the safety car. Shortly after, John Engelborghs game is also over. The Belgian takes off in his sleek yellow Lotus Exige, hits a small crash barrier and comes to a dangerous stop on the grass near Ruskenhoek Road. Another time Full Course Yellow removed the car.
