The Lexus LFR electric sports car as the successor to the LFA
In 2.xs up to 100 thanks to “Secret Sauce” and Fake Switch
Lexus is developing an electric supercar that should follow in the footsteps of the LFA by 2030 at the latest. Set name: Lexus LFR. The Japanese showed a similar example in the presentation of 15 electric cars for the next decade.
Toyota boss Akyo Toyoda himself tried to be related to the LFA at the premiere in December 2021: “Lexus will create a battery-electric sports car” that will inherit the driving taste or “secret sauce” from the LFA.
The LFR sports car as a standard meter for the sportier Lexus
The compact sports car has a long “engine” hood with deep air intakes, a front with a lot of holes and LED lights and a lot of spoilers. Unlike the successor of the electric Toyota MR2, the design looks reserved and slim. The side view is elegant, only the rear guards are slightly out. The two-person passenger cell is in a different color, which makes the model look more elegant and stylish.

The eye-catchers on the sides are small doors that open above the strong sill and rise up in the rear area. The pointed roof sweeps back like a coupe and creates a large rear end with a powerful diffuser and large LED headlights. It is only in this perspective that the Lexus sports car shows its aggressive side.
For a special driving experience, Lexus doesn’t just rely on the sound of the V8 inside. In fact, the best sports car will start with a gear lever and clutch pedal to suggest sportiness. As Takashi Watanabe, Chief Engineer of Lexus Electrified explains: “From the outside, this car is as quiet as any other BEV. But the driver can experience all the sensations of the car with the manual transmission. Because it is a software-based system, it can do so programmed to to simulate the driving conditions of different types of vehicles, allowing the driver to choose the map he prefers.”
The Japanese have not yet officially presented the name of the electric athlete. However, the patent-pending design model sets the direction clear. On October 14, 2022, the name Lexus LFR was protected at the European Copyright Office of the Lexus car manufacturer. Entry to Nice Class 12 allows the use of vehicles
The sports car is the archetype for the upcoming electric models of Lexus, which the company also expects. In addition to the two-seater, there will be a four-door Shooting Brake, a Convertible, a sedan in the form of an IS and two SUVs.
What they all have in common is the same platform that the LFR athlete will build. This platform allows for rear- and all-wheel drive as well as a flat battery architecture. Presumably, solid-state batteries are at the beginning, which Toyota, as parent Lexus, would like to install by mid-decade. With a range of about 700 km, the e-sports car seems to be perfect if you don’t want to regularly enjoy the possible sprint time in the range of less than two seconds to 100 km/h.
The Lexus LFA was launched between 2010 and 2012 as a two-seater sedan and was limited to 500 units. The model was powered by a Yamaha V10 engine with a displacement of 4.8 liters and an output of 560 hp. The maximum torque was 480 Nm. The nearly 1.5-ton LFA ran up to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reached a top speed of 325 km/h. Price at the time: 375,000 euros. Just recently, the model was auctioned as a Nürburgring Edition for 1.36 million euros. (see image display).
No, it’s boring!
Toyota subsidiary Lexus also relies on clean battery models and will improve the car’s performance and performance. As a benchmark for all other sports models, Lexus will launch a super sports car based on the LFA – with a high-performance battery, long range and a new platform that will probably enable both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. Name: Lexus LFR.
