Meteorologists in Quebec are forecasting up to 20 cm of snowfall this weekend, as a cold front moves into the province.
The system is expected to arrive on Saturday, bringing with it significant accumulations of snow and frigid temperatures that will linger into Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Quebec has issued a winter storm warning for much of the province, warning of hazardous driving conditions due to the snow accumulations. The warning is in effect from Saturday night until Sunday afternoon.
The snowfall is expected to affect the entire province, with snowfall amounts varying across the region. The heaviest snowfall is expected in the southeast, where accumulations of up to 20 cm are forecasted. Elsewhere in Quebec, snowfall amounts of 10-15 cm are anticipated.
The cold temperatures accompanying the storm are expected to persist through the weekend, with overnight lows in the -10C range.
Residents of Quebec are advised to prepare for the storm by stocking up on supplies, such as food and water, and ensuring that snow removal equipment is in working condition. Those travelling by vehicle are advised to be cautious and allow for extra time when travelling, due to the hazardous driving conditions.
In addition, wind chill values in the province are anticipated to be as low as -25C in some areas, creating a risk of frostbite and hypothermia. Residents are encouraged to dress in multiple layers when outdoors, and limit outdoor activities as much as possible.
