This is the new Toyota Yaris Cross. It looks like a RAV4, but kiss the dog’s nose

Toyota showed the new Yaris Cross model, which is completely different from the Yaris Cross available in Polish showrooms. This SUV is a model for the Indonesian market. The car is very nice, it looks like a miniaturized Highlander.

The Yaris crossover in Asia shows that Toyota is developing its model range in the same way as the European brands. So how? The idea is to build visually the same car in many sizes. Have you ever seen an Audi or Mercedes in a photo and wondered if it is representative of the C, D, or E segment, or maybe even an S – because they all look “the same”? I have a feeling that a similar fate awaits Toyota’s range of SUVs. The Lexus brand has already done that. Going to the SUVs tab on the Lexus website, you will see that the RX, NX and UX are very similar. Now is Toyota’s time.

To date, there is still considerable stylistic diversity between the SUV models in Toyota’s European range. On the one hand are the Highlander and RAV4 with their large grills and horizontal headlights, and on the other hand the Yaris Cross and bZ4X with their raised noses. The popular CH-R is completely different from them, and the muscular city Aygo X has a different style.

But that is starting to change – the Toyota Corolla Cross, which is similar to the RAV4, has recently joined the range. It turns out that this is not the end of the similarity of the individual models, because the well-known SUVs will get one more brother – so far from here, but who knows … It is an SUV of segment B called Yaris Cross. – the car has nothing to do with the model of the same name sold in Europe – which is a pity.

At the time of the premiere, Toyota boasted a large cabin, which in some ways is similar to cars from the top. In addition, the battery in the hybrid is placed under the rear seats, so there is no limit to the luggage space, which is claimed to be the largest in its class.

Toyota Yaris Cross in Indonesia

The model will be available with two power options – petrol or hybrid. The 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine produces 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque. It can be paired with a five-speed manual or CVT transmission. In both cases, the drive is carried out on the front axle. As for the most efficient version, you can choose a hybrid with a total power of 110 hp, which is slightly less than Toyota’s European hybrids.

The dashboard with 10.1-inch infotainment display and 7-inch digital instrument cluster looks new. Equipment may include ambient lighting, a sunroof, a power liftgate and the Toyota Sense ADAS device. The Indonesian Toyota Yaris Cross is based on the DNGA platform and measures 4,310mm in length, 1,770mm in width, 1,615mm in height and a 2,620mm wheelbase. The Asian Cross is 130 mm longer than the Yaris Cross known from Europe, built on the EU TNGA architecture.
