Volkswagen ID.Unyx, chinois Cupra Tavascan

It’s no secret that the Cupra Tavascan will be released in China. But since the Spanish brand has no network in China, it becomes the more conservatively styled Volkswagen ID.Unyx.

In addition to its two joint ventures with FAW and SAIC, Volkswagen has partnered in China with JAC Motors to develop electric vehicles. The first test was a revised version of the JAC model. Sehol E20X was quickly abandoned due to weak sales, and the German group completely reviewed its cooperation. A few years later, the first car ready to leave the factories of Volkswagen Anhui… will be the Cupra Tavascan. The Spanish electric SUV will therefore be manufactured in China for the European market.

At first glance, a surprising configuration, since the Tavascan will not be sold in China, Volkswagen finally stopped producing Kiti or Cupra there. But actually, the Tavascan will be sold in China… under the Volkswagen brand. So here is ID.Unyx. A machine that the German manufacturer hopes to improve its image in the Chinese electric car market. The change in brand and name is accompanied by minor changes: the interior arrangement of the front and rear lights, a continuous light border at the front, a shield that is less tortured and without air passages towards the hood.

Of course, there is no chance that this model will return to Europe under the Volkswagen brand. On the other hand, we will soon find other models from the brand that involve the ID family not by numbers, but by names. For us, it will be about keeping the historical names alive: ID.Golf, ID.Polo, ID.Tiguan…
