Exclusive Volvo FM concrete mixer for BCK

Betonmortel Centrale Koudekerk (BCK) recently put two special Volvo FM 500 10×4 mixers into use. These are the first Volvo FM 5-axle 49 ton TAG-XL concrete mixers in the Netherlands that are fully suspended in the air. BCK therefore focuses on maximum driving comfort for drivers. The trucks were supplied by the Volvo Group Truck Center Alphen aan den Rijn.

BCK produces concrete mortar, grout mortar, cement-based concrete floors (Eco2floor) and related products. The company transports 22 concrete mixers, including two new Volvo FM 500 10×4 mixers. “It is the first time that Volvo FM concrete mixers in this configuration are available with air suspension throughout,” says Roald van der Wal, director of BCK. “We chose this to increase the driving comfort even more, also in combination with the electric steering system controlled by Volvo Dynamic Steering. Drivers get pleasure from driving these trucks. They really don’t feel the thresholds anymore.”

Air suspension provides another important advantage. Van der Wal: “We often use this truck on unpaved and uneven surfaces. The moisture content of cement mortar also varies. In that case, it is an added advantage that with the air suspension we can move the chassis a little further or further back for complete stability.

Maximum load

The Volvo FM concrete mixers have a 15 cubic meter Schwing Stetter concrete mixer which was built by Boogert Service in Nieuwerkerk. Both trucks have a 49 tonne TAG-XL axle configuration to make the most of the legally permitted maximum weight. Van der Wal: “Concrete mortar is a very heavy product. With these trucks we always reach the maximum weight allowed by law. Thanks to the TAG-XL axle configuration, these trucks have a GVW of 49 tonnes and are suitable for this, even with the 10 tonne air-suspended front axles.

Important security

Choosing Volvo Trucks is also a choice for safety, Van der Wal continues. “Volvo Trucks is known for its advanced safety features. We have even more safety options on this truck, including Forward Collision Warning with Adaptive Cruise Control and a rearview camera on the right. For us, these trucks are the perfect combination of reliability, safety and comfort for the driver.

Young ship

Most of BCK’s fleet consists of Volvo trucks. “We have 22 cement mixers and every year we replace 3 to 4 mixers. We are fully focused on a young group with reliable vehicles that meet the specific needs that are currently put into use in (inner) urban areas. Customers are increasingly taking production into account in their choices Of course, we look at the product we produce, but transport also plays a role. The new fleet helps to keep emissions as low as possible. Another advantage is that new trucks require less maintenance.

BCK has extensive maintenance and inspections carried out at the Volvo Group Truck Center in Alphen aan den Rijn. “As a company, we are very focused on reliability and a high level of service,” says Van der Wal. “That is also the link between Volvo Trucks and the Volvo Group Truck Center. We work with a perishable product that becomes difficult quickly, so in the event of an emergency it is important that the dealer responds and acts accordingly. Volvo Group Truck Center understands the potential risks of damage in the event of an emergency and takes immediate action.
