Ferrari, Toyota receive biggest BoP break for Imola WEC round

The Ferrari 499P Le Mans Hypercar will run at a minimum weight of 1041kg, 34kg less than the figure it competed in last month’s WEC-raiser in Qatar, and has a maximum power boost of 7kW (9bhp).

Toyota’s GR010 HYBRID LMH has lost 29 kg and gained 6kW in the table released by the FIA WEC Committee.

All nine models competing in the WEC Hypercar class will be lighter and use more power in Sunday’s Imola 6 Hours than in the Qatar 1812Km on March 2 with the exception of the modified Peugeot 9X8 LMH.

The Porsche 963 LMDh that blocked the podium positions in Qatar has a reduced weight of 15kg and also a power increase of 3kW.

The third weight reduction is for the Alpine A424 LMDh at 28kg, closely followed by the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 6 Competizioni LMH and the BMW M Hybrid LMDh at 27kg and 25kg respectively.

Cadillac has received the smallest weight reduction, a 2kg reduction to reduce the class minimum of 1030kg.

But its V-Series LMDh has been given an even bigger power boost with an extra 18kW (24bhp).

The heavily revised Peugeot, now known as the 9X8 2024, will tip the scales at 1061kg, 31kg more than the flagship in Qatar, and with a maximum power of 510kW instead of 520kW (683bhp compared to 697bhp).

The speed of the front axle hybrid system for Peugeot is now 190km/h, the same as for other LMHs.

This follows the French manufacturer’s switch to wider 29cm front and 34cm rear tires from the 31cm all-rounder of the previous 9X8 version.

No details, as is usual with the publication of the BoP table before each WEC race, have been given for the changes.

The reduction in the weight of each board and the increase in power are likely to be the result of the different characteristics of the Autodromo Internationale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola and the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.

The introduction of the so-called “power gain” part of the BoP, designed to equalize the speed of the Hypercars in a straight line, is delayed.

An increase or decrease figure will be applied to each vehicle’s maximum power exceeding 210km/h (130mph) to more accurately match their top speed and top speeds.

The power advantage was tested by some manufacturers during the Pre-Qatar Prologue test.

The new-for-2024 LMGT3 Imola BoP table has also been published.

Aston Martin is facing the biggest changes yet to its pair of evolution Vantage GT3s.

The minimum weight of the car that finished second and third in Qatar has been reduced by 12 kg, but it has received a power hit.

Manufacturers advertise the power curve on the car comparison and 14 more curves, with reduced power in increments of one percent, are installed.

Aston will run with the lowest power, listed in the table as P15, in Italy.

A power gain of over 200km/h (124mph) is already in use in the LMGT3.
