New Mazda 6: propulsion, hybrid or electric


Like Ford Mondeo and Opel Insignia, Mazda 6 left the European market through the back door. The Japanese manufacturer has been talking for some time about a successor that would take the SMSS (Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable) modular architecture that CX-60 and the new CX-80. But for now, these projects had not gone beyond the stage of amazing concept cars. Until now, because at the Auto China show, Mazda presents this EZ-6.

Body work of The new Mazda EZ-6 it measures 4.92 m in length and looks very familiar, since its lines take almost all the usual Kodo design elements that we know from the most recent models in the catalog. Despite the sharp headlights, rear spoiler and lampposts decorated with round elements, the design is bolder than the CX-60 we are used to. So it’s a Mazda 6 meant for the Chinese market, designed in collaboration with Changan.

Hybrid or electric

Mazda EZ-6 is a Chinese Deepal SL03, sold in the People’s Republic by Changan Auto. The Japanese manufacturer limits its commitment by dressing up the existing platform with its bodywork and improved interior, dominated by a central infotainment system with a 14.6-inch touchscreen. But don’t look for the Mazda 6’s four-cylinder hybrid engine, nor the six-cylinder diesel.

2024 Mazda EZ-6

The EZ-6 is a rear-wheel drive and electric Mazda 6. You will have a choice between a 100% electric engine, which promises a range of around 600 km, and a hybrid engine with range extender, which increases the range to around 1000 km. Note that these are not WLTP figures, as they are calculated based on Chinese CLTC protocol. The Japanese manufacturer is not saying much about the specifications and performance. Regardless, in this form, the EZ-6 will not make it to Europe.
