Maserati is rapidly converting its model portfolio to go electric. The Gran Turismo is already available with an electric drive, and the 4.87-meter-long Grecale SUV will follow in May. Next year it will be the turn of the MC20 super sports car, as a coupé and as a Spyder, called Cielo (sky). If everything goes according to plan, the next Levante will be available in 2027 and the new Quattroporte in 2028 on an electric platform from the Stellantis Group. The era of combustion is over for Maserati.

The manufacturer expects a lot from Grecale Folgore. A good third of customers are said to choose it, even if the electric model is one of the most expensive in the series with a base price of 135,400 francs. But it is also more powerful: there is a 205 kW electric motor in the front and rear – that’s a total of 410 kW/560 hp. But the generous torque of 820 Nm contributes more to the confident driving experience. Even the best six-cylinder (Nettuno engine) in the Maserati range does not reach this value.

Linear and powerful

Already in the first few kilometers you can see how the electric car matches the Grecale. Smoothness is impressive, linear acceleration and power. Anyone who wants to hit a 2.5-ton SUV to 100 km / h in 4.1 seconds Power is provided according to the driving mode: in “Sport” full power is available, “GT” reduces the output to 80 and “Range. ” to 70 percent. Route the fourth is called “Offroad” and increases the ground clearance to three centimeters.

The battery on the floor has a usable capacity of 96 kWh – which promises a standard range of 501 km. Grecale Folgore also urgently needs this large supply of energy: during the test drive in the south of Italy, the consumption indicator at the exhibition did not fall below 30 kWh / 100 km. That is very strong. The battery will be empty after more than 300 kilometers. So it is difficult to understand why the manufacturers decided on the maximum charging power of only 150 kW.

Visually, the Folgore differs only slightly from the Grecale with a combustion engine. The grill is designed differently, the three side gills are illuminated, the rims have a special aero design and the writing is in bronze color. Tone can also be found in decorations and in fabrics in the interior. You feel very comfortable there, the materials and workmanship are top notch, everything looks right. Finally, there is no loss in terms of space: the trunk still has 535 litres, like the compact hybrid version.
