We live in a time when a few new car brands are being added. Recently, for example, Lynk & Co, Xpeng, VinFast and Polestar were launched and that takes time to get used to. Anyone can imagine the BMW logo without thinking, but can you do the same for Lynk & Co?

Another new edition that we may have to get used to is Genesis. Although the arrival of the Netherlands has not yet been officially confirmed, the chances are high. The start is for Hyundai like Lexus to Toyota and Infiniti to Nissan. So it is an elegant brand of the group. Examples already available in some European countries include large sedans and hefty SUVs. Speaking of emblems, the Genesis structure is almost identical to that of Aston Martin. Looking at the Genesis examples, you can’t help but conclude that one of the designers must have at least an Aston Martin poster on his couch that provided inspiration.

In addition to the big sedans and SUVs, the brand introduced the most iconic EV GV60 this spring. Recently we had the opportunity to get to know him in advance.

It charges very quickly

Like the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Beginning GV60 is on the E-GMP platform, a standard base designed for electronic models exclusively. The platform can be integrated into Hyundai Ioniq 5 with Kia EV6 with 58 kWh and 77.4 kWh battery pack. Genesis only installs a 77.4 kWh battery on the GV60. Another advantage of this platform: it can handle 400V and 800V charging structures. It enables charging capacity of up to 239 kW, which means that in theory you can fully charge a battery pack from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes.

451 km distance

The rear wheel variant has 228 hp and 350 Nm electric motor on the rear axle. This GV60 has a range of 451 km. The GV60 with four-wheel drive has an electric horsepower 218 horsepower and 101 hp front. The system power is 319 hp and torque 605 Nm. The most powerful electric cars offer the smallest range, although the 400-wheel-drive GV60 four-wheel drive is not something to be ashamed of. Genesis has also created the GV60’s flagship model, Sport Plus. This four-wheel drive variant also has two 218 hp electric motors, which together calculate the system power of 436 hp and 700 Nm. However, due to the power boost function, the power can be increased to 245 hp per engine up to 10 seconds, for a total of 490. With the latter we were able to drive for a while.

It is beautifully designed

An interesting yellow color will be available to order soon, but without the hide edge that this car still has. São Paulo Lime is the name of the color and its most specific description is that it is an interesting color. We can assume that you think that such a noise color is a little more appropriate with a car that is placed high on the market. Surprisingly, the testauto does not have regular wing mirrors, but cameras on the trunks as you can import them into the Audi E-tron. Inside, we see beautifully embroidered blue leather, embroidered with Bang & Olufsen sound system. The large panel serves as a dashboard – a concept very popular at the moment – and the interface is undoubtedly very similar to that of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5, but it is a much better design.

Glass sphere

Fortunately, several controls are also installed outside the system here and you can still set the internal temperature with a button. Most interesting is the glass ball on the center dashboard which does not illuminate the future, but turns off when you press the start button and give way to the circuit breaker that you are using the reception.

Do not take the camera

Not surprisingly, the Genesis GV60 runs smoothly; after all, his brothers mentioned above do the same. It is a toy car – weighing more than two tons – that drives well, gives a lot of feedback and accelerates easily. You can activate the Add function with the push button on the steering wheel, in our case we got zero on the bill because the remaining battery charge had fallen below 10 percent. So that must be at least 20 more. Certainly not recommended are cameras that replace external mirrors. Image contrast is average and you miss the depth of the field. Good cunning, but hindering security.

more conservative

We suspect that Genesis can win some market share in the Netherlands in this fashion. The Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 both have very clear designs, the GV60 is more conservative on the outside and inside, if you don’t order it in yellow. There must be people who prefer that. Again: The beginning is going very well. It’s a brother that you can have.
