With this step, the movement announces the start of a series of actions to raise awareness of the cause of climate change.

Liberating Switzerland

On Tuesday morning, four activists from the pro-climate group Liberate Switzerland sprayed orange on a Porsche dealership in Switzerland, in the town of Crissier. The action refers to the condemnation of the country by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for its climate action, which fell on the same day. Activists are specifically calling for the sale of new diesel cars to be banned from 2025 in Switzerland.

They also call for “significant” investments to be made in smooth mobility and public transport, we read in a press release. The Liberate Switzerland movement announces that other actions will follow in the coming days and during the month of May.

“I fear for the future of my children”

“Two years ago, I sat on the Maladière avenue in Lausanne for the first step of Rebuilding Switzerland. I continue these actions because I fear for the future of my children and grandchildren,” said Willy Burri, a 70-year-old pensioner, quoted in a statement to the media.

And concluded: “The year 2023 broke all records for CO2 emissions. It was the warmest year since measurements began.”

Heir to Swiss Renovation

The Liberate Switzerland campaign is the second campaign of the Swiss civil resistance movement “take action now!” It follows the first campaign, Fix Switzerland. The organization is pleased with the enthusiasm of the movement. In two years, it has grown from 5 to more than 250 members involved in civil resistance.
