The new electric car will attack the electric VW Golf GTI

BYD is attacking the VW ID.3 GTX and, as expected, presented the “Ocean-M” concept in China today. It is the first electric performance hatchback, which is not entirely true as Volkswagen has already presented this.

Volkswagen emphasized today that it has done its homework and doesn’t want to be left behind by a brand from China, so I’m curious to see if this new electric car from BYD has a little more than 240 kW (326 hp).

Performance isn’t everything, there’s no question, but BYD can build cars so it won’t be a problem. And with the Ocean-M, BYD wants to use a completely new platform for electric vehicles, so a high technical level can be expected.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details at the moment, BYD’s focus today was on the design and further development of the Sea design language. But they have chosen an attractive look, so BYD wants to be in the performance category.

This will be exciting, because Volkswagen hasn’t been able to take GTI fans with it yet and is therefore already planning an electric VW Golf GTI for the future. However, it will be until 2026 before we see this.

BYD Ocean-M should come a little earlier, because an electric car for less than 20,000 euros (modified) will be launched in China in the third quarter and I can imagine that it will come to us in 2025 and want to attack the electric Golf.
